Neurological Substrates of Aggressive Bera Vior1

چکیده
Stalking attack, defensive reactions, flight, cooperative interactions be tween members of a species in a fight, display of the "killer" instinct, and predation are but some of the overt agonistic behaviors recognized among various animal species, including man. Ethologists frequently distinguish be tween interspecific hunting behavior, predation, which generally is used by animals to satisfy a physiologic need such as hunger, and intraspecific social aggression, or fighting behavior, which may be more related to an emotional gratification and which frequently does not result in death of the participants. Eibl-Eibesfeldt (56), however, has noted that in some instances hunting be havior among predators is not especially related to hunger satisfaction. It appears evident that specific neural mechanisms underlie aggressive be havior since an animal's pattern of activity can be changed from quiescent to savage or from savage to docile by electrical stimulation of specific brain sites. That such transformations may take place regardless of the environ mental milieu and that they cannot be conditioned indicate the existence of so-called innate determined patterns of agonistic behavior. On the other hand, stimulation of other brain sites may also lead to aggressive reactions which are situation-dependent and which can easily and quickly be condi tioned. The neural mechanisms underlying these latter patterns seem not pre determined, but appear dependent upon preceding, current, and predicted en vironmental experience. In this review the neural substrates of specific aggressive behaviors will be examined.2 Our objectives will be to define patterns of agonistic behavior, to

Preoperative assessment of meningioma aggressiveness by Thallium-201 brain SPECT
Introduction: Meningioma is usually a benign brain tumor, but sometimes with aggressive course. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of 201Tl Brain SPECT to differentiate the pathologic grade of meningioma preoperatively. Methods: Thirty lesions in 28 patients were evaluated in this study. Early (20 minutes) and late (3 hours) brain SPECT images were performed and early u...
متن کاملOutcome of screening for hearing impairment in the newborn – a hospital-based study
Background: Loss of hearing is a non-visible disability (NVD) and the second most common congenital pathology. Apart from hearing loss, further disability in these domains has been reported like development of language, speech, cognition, and other evolving domains. These can be prevented by early identification and intervention. The aim of this study was to assess the outcomes of neonatal hear...

Even though neurofibromatosis ( NF) is not a rare neurological disorder, but there is few studies regarding the relationship between NF and psychological disorders. A 14 year old girl with NF type 1 associated with multiple cerebral lesions was admitted in psychiatric ward due to restlessness , hypertalktiveness aggressive behavior, and flight of idea. متن کاملReversibility of brainstem evoked response audiometry abnormalities at 3 months in term newborns with hyperbilirubinemia.
BACKGROUND High bilirubin level is toxic to developing brain and auditory system but the current debate surrounds the toxicity of bilirubin in healthy term infants. METHODS Longitudinal observational study to find BERA abnormalities in term newborns with isolated hyperbilirubinemia of 20 mg/dL and more and to follow up babies at 3 months to find out about the reversibility in BERA abnormaliti...
متن کاملRelational Versus Physical Aggression: An Overview
There is much neurological and cognitive research contributing to explanations of physically aggressive behavior. The brain’s activity and functioning are significant in the determination of reasons for this form of aggressive behavior. Relational aggression is another form of aggression, however, and most research in this area focuses on the social or peer relationship side of relational aggre...
